Birth of a Nation
made for Newark city's Model Neighborhood Initiative, a program partially involved in beautification along with quality of life and a redevelopment focus. This mural is a collaborative design between myself and Middy using Akintola Hanif's portrait of Middy and Internet sourced portraits of Malcolm X and Amiri Baraka: strong roots from which a new nation is being built in the city. The title itself also alludes to Frantz Fanon's decolonizing tactic of inverting the tools of the oppressor.
