Imaginative Realism: The Native Sun
A collaborative site-specific mural and installation created by Mata Ruda, NDA and Lunar New Year for the New Jersey Arts Annual: "Ready or Not" at the Newark Museum in Newark, New Jersey.
"The Native Sun" relates natural cycles like the phases of the moon, sunrise and sunsets and geographic maps to the historical and social topography that has shaped the city of Newark from its inception to it's current state. Images from its past and present are woven in with representations of architecture, both real and imagined, as well as items from the Newark Museum's collection - all together this depiction observes the power of people as well as corporate and social movements that are at play in the city.
